Welcome to Stonyhill Sugarhouse. We are a Family-owned and operated maple sugaring business. We are located in Fletcher, VT. Our sugarhouse combines modern technology with tradition to provide some of the finest award winning maple products. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of the maple industry and encourage people to contact us with any questions. Our doors are always open to those who wish to see how and where our products are created.
The so called “maple sugaring bug” started at a very young age while growing up on a Morgan horse farm in Southern VT. A small arch set up in the yard, coupled with a handful of buckets hung on our maple trees, was all it took to instill in me a passion for making maple syrup and all that this Vermont tradition entails. My childhood years, and earliest experiences with sugaring, provided the foundation for a lifelong interest that would eventually develop into Stonyhill Sugarhouse.
After high school, I attended Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont and it was there that I met my wife, Jennifer. Jennifer grew up working in a family owned and operated business in northern Vermont, and her love for this area is what drew me to permanently move north after college. She too found herself immersed in maple sugaring from a young age, helping neighboring friends with the various aspects of the sugaring business, from collecting sap with teams of horses to shared laughter inside the sugarhouse. Our combined memories and experiences with maple sugaring almost forced us to build a sugarhouse after buying our home in Fletcher, Vermont and finding ourselves surrounded by countless maple trees. At the time, we both had full-time careers, so sugaring was an advanced hobby; one that provided a place for family and friends to gather and memories, similar to those from our childhood, to be created.
In 2007, our daughter Marianna was born, and she quickly found herself riding in a backpack while Jennifer gathered sap from buckets scattered about our property. Marianna's immediate and natural love for the outdoors led her to quickly become the label for Stonyhill Sugarhouse. In 2009, the opportunity presented itself to take our hobby to the next level and, with little hesitation, the sugarhouse that I built with my father and family friend, Dr. Gordon, was torn down and a new one was erected. During construction of the new sugarhouse, we decided it was important to us to incorporate modern technology into our sugaring process, without jeopardizing the nostalgic authenticity of Vermont’s signature product. We at Stonyhill Sugarhouse take pride in a Vermont tradition that we have participated in all of our lives. We strive to make quality, award winning and certified organic maple products. Jennifer and I are passionate about what we do, enjoy talking with people about the process of making maple syrup and other maple products, and have an open door policy. Like true Vermonters, our sugarhouse door is never closed to friends or customers!
Our most recent endeavor has been to expand beyond the sugaring business and into the honey business. While growing our business in the maple industry, the thought of raising honey bees routinely crossed my mind. This idea became a reality when myself, and a couple friends caught a swarm of bees which landed in front of the sugarhouse. From there, the complexity of raising bees created a new, and sometimes painful, interest. We have slowly grown Stonyhill Apiaries in order to incorporate honey alongside our maple products and provide our customers with some of the most delicious products nature has to offer.
